Warehouse Shift Booking Automation

AWS control plane and elastic worker fleet that books hourly warehouse shifts for opted-in candidates

A freelance project I built from scratch in July 2026 and delivered as a full handoff. It books hourly warehouse shifts for candidates who have given consent. An operator imports candidates, a login service signs each one in and keeps a short-lived token fresh, and a fleet of workers polls the shift schedule and books a matching shift the moment it opens, applying only once per candidate. I designed and built all of it: a TypeScript monorepo with an API, a login service, workers and an operator dashboard, plus Terraform-managed AWS infrastructure, CI/CD and architecture docs.

Highlights

  1. 01Control plane on ECS Fargate (API, login service, orchestrator) behind CloudFront and an ALB, with RDS Postgres as the only system of record and Redis for queues, leases and live tokens.
  2. 02Elastic arm64 EC2 worker fleet (Spot plus a small on-demand base, warm pool, Packer golden AMI). Workers hold no database connections and talk only to Redis and the API.
  3. 03Apply-once guarantee enforced by a partial unique index in Postgres, with tokens and credentials envelope-encrypted through AWS KMS.
  4. 04Operator dashboard for candidates, workers, proxies, job mapping, logs and audit, with live updates, role permissions, passkey sign-in and a global kill-switch.
  5. 05Terraform modules for network, IAM, secrets, control plane, worker fleet and observability, six GitHub Actions workflows deploying through OIDC, and 82 test files. 141 commits, all mine, in July 2026.
